Fixing the skirting board to drywall

Usually, when the repair or finishing work is completed, a skirting board is installed. Thanks to this decorative element, the flooring takes on a finished look. It was created to hide the gaps between the floor and walls, and sometimes wiring is placed in the baseboards. Such a decorative element may be wooden, plastic or made of MDF. The choice of material for the manufacture of skirting should be guided by the type of flooring. In addition to different materials for the production of decorative elements, its width and thickness may also be excellent. The length is usually standard - about one and a half meters. Plastic baseboard

Important! Plinths are produced in the form of strips that can be attached to the wall with adhesive tape - it is located on the back side.

Now plastic decor is at the peak of popularity. The reason is that such material does not need to perform additional processing, it immediately comes with an absolutely smooth surface. In addition, there is no need for special care - the material is very durable, looks aesthetically pleasing, well tolerates household chemicals.

Materials for work

Before attaching the baseboard to drywall, you need to acquire the following tools:

  • Hacksaw for metal;
  • Tape measure;
  • Knife and awl;
  • Building corner;

Wooden baseboard

This decorative element is framed by a laminate floor and parquet. A pine or spruce massif, veneered on top, is usually used as the basis for the construction. In addition, for the manufacture of baseboards used oak, cherry, ash and other wood species. As with plastic products, wood can also have a cable channel.

Important! Before mounting, the wooden plinth is processed using a primer and two layers of varnish.

Products from this material are environmentally friendly, durable and durable. But, at the same time, they have a rather high price, so it makes sense to use this option only in the case of laying expensive flooring.

Skirting board mounting options

Depending on the material from which the baseboard is made, the method of its installation is selected.

Glue (liquid nails)

In choosing how to fix the baseboard to drywall, the adhesive mixture is the easiest option. Its main drawback is that in the process of dismantling it is necessary to tear down the wallpaper.

Glue is a fairly common method of fastening, as in this case, the use of special skills will not be required. The method is very simple:

  1. Apply glue to the inner surface.
  2. Press firmly to the surface.

Important! This option is suitable if the baseboard is planned to be attached for a long period of time.

Special fasteners

Plinth fastening to drywall is often done using special fasteners, which are usually sold as a set. Clips are used to attach the decorative element, due to which the fixation becomes hidden. The distance between the fasteners is 300-500 mm. The screws are inserted inside the hole, and special plugs cover them from above.

Important! If the walls or floor are uneven, use special gaskets.

During the installation process, you can use additional accessories with the help of which the formation of various bends and transitions in difficult places takes place. They are joined at an angle, and then the junction is closed with special plates.

Dowel Butterfly

Fasteners made of nylon. It has a metal screw that easily passes into the drilled hole. In the upper part, the dowel is equipped with bumpers that firmly fix it in the plane and prevent turning.

How to install:

  1. We drill a hole whose depth is greater than the length of the self-tapping screw by 5 mm.
  2. We remove dust from the hole.
  3. We insert the dowel, screw in the screw. In this case, folding of the dowel petals should occur.

Important! The thickness of the structure, which will be attached to drywall, should not be more than 5 mm.

Dowel molly

Such fasteners are used for structures with significant weight. The dowel looks like a metal hollow rod with a spacer. During installation, it opens and forms a structure similar to an umbrella. The underside of the cap is equipped with two spikes. A screw is inserted in the center of the dowel.

How is the installation:

  1. We make a hole in the drywall.
  2. We insert the dowel. The spikes should be “recessed” into the drywall.
  3. We twist the screw, while the dowel bursts.
  4. Unscrew the screw and twist again.
