Where did the blinds come from?

Before you make such homemade paper curtains, you should understand what they are. For the first time, such products appeared in people living on the Caribbean coast. The Spaniards became the discoverers among Europeans. This thing was especially popular among people living in the tropical climate zone. In the 17th century, people began to create horizontal instances that are very similar to modern models. And closer to the 20th century, vertical models of such products began to be produced.

Vertical blinds are an excellent option for kitchens and dining rooms, as there is an increased level of humidity and a lot of different smells. Home-made curtains will absorb all this like a sponge. At the moment, both those and other types of home-made curtains can be made independently at home, while using improvised materials.

Important! The coloring of the material plays an important role in the long-term service of paper curtains:

  • Most experienced needlewomen recommend choosing wallpaper of unsharp cold shades with a small ornament.
  • Bright blinds visually refresh and enlarge the room.

Step-by-step instructions for creating the simplest blinds

With a strong desire, you can make blinds from wallpaper with your own hands step by step. In order for them to turn out to be of the highest quality, you should adhere to the following algorithm of actions:

  1. First take measurements of the window for which paper curtains will be created.
  2. If the windows are too large or have non-standard sizes, it is recommended to sketch for future curtains.
  3. Considering that the blinds will be bent horizontally, a fourth part of the canvas is added to the total length. This is necessary so that the window is completely curtained.
  4. The cord or decorative tape should be about twice as long as the curtain itself, as it will bend.
  5. A rectangular canvas is cut out from the sketch. The main thing is to make sure that the picture on the wallpaper does not deteriorate.
  6. After you have prepared the basis of the curtain, begin to bend it. Make sure that the bend width is no more than 7 centimeters. If the bend width is greater, then the resulting curtain will be beveled and uneven.
  7. On the prepared canvas with a pencil, it is necessary to mark the middle. On a pencil strip you need to make several holes with a hole punch or an awl.
  8. It is advisable to seal the holes made with tape in order to strengthen the paper. Then you should make holes in the same places again.
  9. A cord or tape is threaded into the holes, then the canvas is stretched.
  10. Using double-sided adhesive tape, we make fastening for the curtain. We glue the upper part with tape, remove the top coating and glue it to the window.
  11. Bottom blinds are designed in the form of a fan. To do this, the last few stripes need to be glued together.
  12. So that the curtain does not fall apart, it is fixed at the bottom with a special lock. You can use regular beads or large beads.

Important! If you don't have a hole punch in your arsenal, you can use a screwdriver or something similar.

Making blinds at home is very simple and not at all expensive. Use an old piece of wallpaper and improvised materials.

How to make classic window blinds?

If you want to make the blinds from the wallpaper more similar to the factory ones, then you will not have to spend more time and money on this:

  • First you need to make holes on both sides of the canvas. The main thing is that they should be at the same distance from the edges of the curtains.
  • Next, cords are inserted into each of the holes, which are secured with clips. The latch is necessary for convenient closing and opening the curtains.

Important! Instead of a retainer or beads, you can think of any other decorative ornament that will play the role of a fixer.

  • Over time, the lower part of the curtain when opening and closing will lose its strength, so it is recommended to strengthen it. As a reinforcement, a piece of cardboard can be glued to the bottom of the canvas. It will make the construction a little heavier, and it can last much longer.
