Mixer with automatic temperature control

It is not always possible to precisely adjust the water pressure. Not only is water flowing differently in pipes, but indicators can often change dramatically, as residents of high-rise buildings are well aware. A faucet with automatic temperature control is an excellent solution for solving such problems. With its help it is possible to obtain a stable flow of water at a given temperature. How to choose such plumbing - we will consider in this article.
to contents ↑How is a mixer with a thermostat arranged?
In such a device, a mixer and a temperature measurement sensor are combined. Such a mixer looks like a control panel with handles, thanks to which you can turn water on and off, adjust the temperature.
Important! The temperature must be set at the very beginning, and then when the tap is turned on, it will receive exactly the water that is needed. It can be regulated with an accuracy of one degree, which means that the risk of burns is minimized.
Such a device is usually used in case of:
- Presence in the house of young children;
- A big difference in pressure in pipes with hot and cold water.
to contents ↑Important! Parents can opt for models that are equipped with a child lock. Thus, the set temperature will not change. To change the temperature, you will have to remove the thermostat from the fuse.
How does a mixer with a thermostat work?
Inside the device there is a thermocouple, with the help of which the water supply is automatically regulated. In fact, it regulates the process of mixing water. If there is no hot or cold water in the pipes, the water in the mixer will turn off completely.
After setting the required temperature, the user can only adjust the pressure. A mixer with adjustable water temperature will cope on its own with maintaining the necessary parameters.
There are two ways to adjust indicators:
- Manually;
- Using the remote control.
Advantages and disadvantages
Such devices have many advantages:
- Profitability. When installing devices for heating water, precise temperature control allows you not to waste hot water in vain. As a result, both energy consumption and water consumption are reduced.
- Security. If hot water is turned off, the shower will not become scorching hot or cold.
- Independence. Neighbors who turn on or turn off the water at home will no longer affect the pressure in your soul.
Important! The main disadvantage is the relative high cost of such devices. However, financial costs in the future can be easily recouped.
Mixer Options
Devices are produced by different manufacturers, so they differ in price and functionality. The principle of their work is common, but the purpose may vary. For instance:
- The basin mixer can be installed in the toilet, bathroom or in the kitchen.
- The shower device is designed so that maximum functionality and comfort will be achieved precisely when installed in the shower.
- A faucet with adjustable water temperature for the bathroom will work best there.
Important! We recommend that you select the mixer and washbasin at the same time, so that after the completion of installation and construction work, the result will please you. An overview of the variety of shapes, materials used, classification by installation method and many other useful information, read in our article “How to choose a bathroom sink?”.
Install the mixer
The thermostatic mixer is installed in much the same way as an ordinary one: the device is connected to pipes with water, all connections are sealed, and the device is checked.
Work may vary, depending on the installation location:
- Wall;
- Separate rack;
- Washbasin;
- Bath side;
- In the wall.
Important! Different models may differ in installation nuances, so the first thing to do is to familiarize yourself with the manufacturer's instructions.
In general, work is performed as follows:
- We block the cold and hot water in the apartment.
- We clean and lubricate the shut-off valves so that the water intake is reliably shut off.
- Dismantle the old mixer.
- We unscrew the fixing nuts of the new device.
- Check that the metal discs and thread are intact.
- Turn off the eccentric discs counterclockwise.
- We clean accumulated pollution from disks and bends.
- Install disks.
- We wind up a sealant on a carving of the mixer.
- We install gaskets.
- Push the nuts of the bends all the way.
- We carry out installation of decorative slips.
- We fasten the device.
- We make installation of a spout, a shower watering can and other hinged elements.
- We seal the joints.
- We connect water and check the work.
- Set the desired temperature.
Important! An integral companion to the installation of the mixer is the installation of the washbasin. You will find answers to all questions (from dismantling old equipment to fixing new) on carrying out these works in our article "Installing the sink in the bathroom".
Helpful hints:
- To mount the built-in faucet with adjustable water temperature, a special cavity and strobes are made in the wall - this allows hot and cold water to be supplied.
- To seal threaded connections, use tow, linen, FUM tape, or other suitable sealant.
Important! The appliance must be combined correctly with pipes in which hot and cold water is supplied.
- In the production of most faucets, European standards are used, and therefore cold water is supplied on the right, and hot water on the left. But in old houses, the water supply is arranged on the contrary - cold water comes up to the left.
Important! The mixer may break due to improper connection.
- It is not always possible to deploy the device, since the spout will be directed upwards. To properly mount the wall model, you will need to remake the water distribution.
- In electronic models, the control panel is used for tuning.
- In mechanical models, everything is somewhat different. By default, the manufacturer set the neutral position in which the water temperature is 38 degrees. In the event that such data suits, the settings need to be fixed. To do this, the protective cover is removed and the control valve mounted under it rotates. To measure the temperature, use a conventional thermometer.
to contents ↑Important! Modern water systems can harm appliances. They are distinguished by low water quality, sharp pressure drops and the likelihood of water hammer. To prevent problems, it is necessary to install a check valve or gearbox at the entrance to the apartment water supply system, for which an adjustment is made that matches the characteristics of the mixer.
